Vet’s Best Natural Flea & Tick Home Spray Review: Effectiveness & Safety

Vet’s Best Natural Flea & Tick Home Spray Review

Keep Your Carpet and Furniture Flea Free

You have managed to eliminate all of the fleas and ticks on your pets, but how do you get the rest of their relatives to leave you home?

This is a common question and, with so many different products available, how do you choose the best one for your family? We sympathize with this problem and have compiled the facts to help you decide if Vet’s Best Flea & Tick Spray is right for you.

Company Claims

Vet’s Best Flea & Tick Home Spray is a natural formula for killing fleas, flea eggs, and tick in your home and on your pets. It will also kill mosquitoes on contact and is safe to use anywhere.

It is composed of natural ingredients and contains no chemicals or toxins that could pose a danger to your pets or your family.

It is considered one of the safest ways to eliminate these parasites from you home and can be used as often as necessary with little danger of causing an adverse reaction in your pets.

Active Ingredients

There are three active ingredients in Vet’s Best Flea & Tick Home Spray:

  • Peppermint Oil
  • Eugenol (Clove Extract)
  • Sodium Lauryl Sulfate

How Does the Spray Work?

Peppermint Oil is an extract that is often used in cooking and some alternative medicines. The effect is has on insects is believed to be caused from the irritation it causes to pheromone sensors. This causes the insects to ignore regular pheromones and can lead to reduced breeding.

Eugenol is another name for Clove Extract. It is believed to have anesthetic properties and is used to numb the insects. This is a minor feeling in larger mammals, but it is deadly when applied to smaller insects. This is the main ingredient that kills the fleas and ticks, numbing their nervous system and causing them to asphyxiate.

The final ingredient is Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, which is a common foaming agent found in toothpaste and shampoo. While there has been some debate over the effects it has on humans, the studies have shown that the only effect from ingesting this chemical is diarrhea. It has a similar effect on insects, with the cause of their demise being dehydration instead of suffocation.

Usage Information

To use Vet’s Best Flea & Tick Home Spray, all you have to do is spray it directly on any infested areas. This can include your carpeting, your pet’s bedding and even your pets.

To use on bedding or carpet, spray a light mist until the surface is moist but not soaked. For pets, spray lightly (avoiding the pets eyes, face and genitals) until they are covered and damp, but not dripping. Massage into the coat and leave on. Repeat as necessary.

What Are Users Saying?

Almost all of the reviews of this product said that it worked really well for bedding and carpets but not so well on the pets themselves. The reviewers thought that it could be caused by repeated contamination or from eggs that did not get coated by the spray.

The only negative review was that the smell was very strong. If you are sensitive to essential oils, especially peppermint and clove, then this could be a problem.

Side Effects and Precautions

There are a few precautions when using essential oils. Even though they are all natural products, there are still dangers if you get them in your eyes. They can cause pain and irritation.

Vet’s Best Flea & Tick Home Spray can also cause irritation to the skin and can discolor clothing. Always test an area before use to avoid discoloration.

Your pet may act like they itch after an application. If this is the case, give them a bath in warm water with a mild soap and contact a veterinarian if the irritation persists.

Overall, Vet's Best Natural Flea & Tick Home Spray appears to be a fine product. While it does have to be applied frequently, due to the nature of fleas to lay eggs in hard to reach places, the lack of toxic chemicals makes it safe to use several times.

You do have to keep it away from small children and use it carefully on living creatures, but it may be one of the best solutions to use on inanimate objects that you want to keep toxin-free to protect your pets and your family.

I had hoped for the best with this Vet’s Best spray but the extracts in this spray are indeed toxic to dogs, especially in any concentration. The problem is compounded the taste of “natural” products tend to be, maybe peculiar to dogs. After spraying our Great Danes we caught one licking the back of the other. We separated them so we could dry the spray off & allowed them back together. They settled into their regular spots & started to take a nap. Shortly after that our Dane that had licked the spray stumbled towards me & went into a seizure. Totaled 3 seizures over about 15-20mins. each one was less severe than the previous. He remained conscious throughout & responds to my voice & touch but has tremors, salivation, mild convulsions. It mainly scared both of us more than anything, so I would say there’s no harm, so no foul. BUT had we followed the directions & completely coated our dog or dismissed the licking & allowed a higher dosage into our dog I would think the outcome would have been completely different.

We are all unique so please do your homework & support websites like this, I wish I had found it sooner!
