Sentry Fiproguard Spot On Flea Treatment Review
Does the sight of fleas on your pet makes you run for the vacuum cleaner? Everyone gets disgusted by fleas, yet they remain a real problem for pet owners.
That’s why the pet care aisle in your local supermarket is replete with flea and tick solutions – ranging from shampoos and collars to chewable tablets and spot on treatments.
We want to make it easier for you to make the right choice. That’s why we’re examining Sentry Fiproguard to see how it fares in our book.
This product is a topical spot on treatment that is available for both cats and dogs in different dosages depending on the size of your pet. It claims to kill both fleas and ticks within 4 hours of application.
The product also claims to prevent re-infestation for up to 30 days. It can be used to kill:
- Chewing lice
- Larvae and eggs
- Also controls mite that may cause sarcoptic mange
By preventing flea bites, Sentry Fiproguard reduces the risk of anemia in your pet and also prevents Lyme disease, which is transferred to humans from fleas.
How it works
Sentry Fiproguard works by killing fleas, ticks, and chewing lice, and preventing re-infestation. It’s a once a month treatment that can be continued for as long as required.
It has the following ingredients:
- 9.70% Fipronil
- 90.30% other ingredients
Fipronil blocks signals to the central nervous system and causes death by hyper excitation.
Sentry Fiproguard should be used once a month, preferably on the same day. It helps control infestation for up to 3 months, although it is suggested that pet owners apply it monthly, especially if you stay in an area where your pet is at a high risk of infestation.
The treatment is available online and over the counter.
It shouldn’t be used on puppies under 8 weeks of age. Do not use a product meant for dogs on cats, or vice versa.
While the product can be used on breeding, pregnant, or lactating pets, consult a vet before doing so.
Do not use any other flea and tick treatments while using Sentry Fiproguard as they may mask its effectiveness.
Product warnings and side effects
This product is an eye irritant. Wear gloves while applying on your pet and wash hands thoroughly after use.
It is effective against ticks and fleas, although there have been reports that fleas are developing resistance towards Fipronil, which is the active ingredient used in this treatment.
Fipronil is highly toxic to fish and aquatic life, and for some species of game birds too.
Pet owners everywhere love Sentry Fiproguard. It definitely gets a thumbs up from us!
