How to Comb for Fleas?

comb for fleas

The day that you discover your pet has fleas is the day you start working to get rid of them.

While you may be panicked over the idea of a flea infestation on your dog or cat, realize that you will be able to get rid of them if you take safe and trusted methods. Furthermore, you also want to make sure that you use a method that will be natural and will not harm your pet.

A flea comb is one of these methods. This is a basic form of flea control that has been used for decades before artificial and natural flea repellants were ever created. A flea comb will work by capturing the fleas in the space between the teeth of the comb. A flea comb will also work to make the fleas jump from your pet’s coat.

First, in order to apply a flea comb correctly, you should use the comb outside, after all, no one wants the fleas to jump off of their pet and into their house. Once you begin, you want to make sure you keep a container of warm, soapy water nearby. It will be necessary for you to drown the fleas once you find them. If you are dealing with fleas during winter months and do not want to go outside to use a flea comb, consider doing this process in a bathtub so you can quickly and easily wash the fleas away.

You will want to comb the fur of your pet very gently. After you complete one stroke, wash the comb in the soapy water to make sure the fleas are dead. Repeat this process on your pet’s entire body and do not forget to do their belly and other places where fleas could be living.

A flea comb can be used as much as needed and can help manage a flea problem or prevent it from happening to begin with.
